The National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) following the beginning of the 2022 academic year has released the Colleges of Education fees structure for newly admitted and continuing students.
The fees approved to be paid by fresh students and continuing students of the various public Colleges of Education the Conference said may differ from teacher training institutions based on academic programmes being offered.
The fees exemption of examination fees consists of SRC dues, hall dues, library user fees and utility fees. The fees are as follows: Level 100 – GHC 2601.30, Level 200 – GHC1431.23, level 300 – GHC 1223.75 and Level 400 – GHC 998.86.
The Principals of the 46 Public Colleges of Education in a statement copied to EducationWeb said prospective students are to pay the fees at all branches of GCB Bank nationwide using the students’ index number or reference number.
PRINCOF indicated that affiliated University of Cape Coast (UCC) Colleges of Education (CoE) are to pay the examination fee directly to the Institute of Education, UCC’s account using students Eagle smart pay platform.
In a related development, the Minister for Education, Hon Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says plans are far advanced for the central government to upgrade 50 to 100-year-old public Colleges of Education to fully-fledged university status.
“After operating for between 50 and 100 years, why must such Colleges continue to be affiliated to other universities when they qualify to be autonomous,” Adutwum told the leadership of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).
The Education Minister February of this year told the teacher union a document on the upgrade of the public Colleges of Education had been submitted to the cabinet for review and approval before the necessary actions and process.
Akrokeri College of Education, Presbyterian College of Education at Agogo and Accra-based Accra College of Education, the Education Minister say are the three Teacher Training institutions earmarked to become universities.
