CETAG to suspend the strike for two weeks beginning tomorrow.


A Report on the Meeting at the Ministry of Education
13/12/2022



1. The meeting had reps from all the affiliate universities, CETAG, PRINCOF and GTEC in attendance.



2. In his preliminary comment, the Minister expressed his worry at the continuing strike by CETAG.



3. With regard to the main agenda for the meeting, the Hon. Minister felt that PRINCOF should be given the opportunity to lay before him their proposed calender.



 4. CETAG was asked to recuse itself to pave way for PRINCOF's presentation on the proposed academic calendar for 2022/2023. 



5. Later, when leadership was recalled to the meeting, the Hon. Minister informed us that he had asked PRINCOF to go back and fine tune other considerations before resubmitting for further discussions. 



6.The Hon Minister assured CETAG that he would give CETAG chance to make inputs after PRINCOF had resubmitted.



7. At this point, the Hon. Minister called the FWSC to the meeting and asked them to prepare a Communique on the outstanding issues that leadership will send to Council for consideration to suspend the strike for 2 weeks to enable him address our concerns for us.



8. In addition, the Hon. Minister, the reps of the affiliate universities, PRINCOF and GTEC appealed to CETAG to reconsider suspending the strike to give the Hon. Minister the chance to intervene as he has assured.



9. Finally, the Hon. Minister assured leadership for the third time to give him that trust to do it for CETAG, just us he did it for UTAG, TUTAG et al recently; failure of which CETAG can resume her strike after the two weeks.



10. Conclusively, CETAG is to report back by close of tomorrow Wednesday, 14th December, 2022 to enable the Ministry take a decision.

Options offered by the Minister to CETAG 


1. CETAG should suspend strike by close of tomorrow for him to make a direct appeal to the President to help him resolve the unresolved concerns within 2 weeks.

2. The Ministry shall direct GTEC and PRINCOF to close down the Colleges on Thursday for the students to go home if CETAG decides not to suspend the strike.

3. Then the employer shall take a decision on whether to pay or not to pay CETAG members for the period they have been on strike.


NB: By this latest information, all locals are expected to hold meetings (online/face-to-face) by close of tomorrow and provide their decision to leadership to be communicated to the stakeholders.


Meanwhile, at today's meeting, the Minister informed us that he had received the results of the voting conducted at the locals on his second but he still wants to appeal to CETAG for the third time to suspend our strike for 2 weeks and trust him to resolve all our outstanding concerns failure of what CETAG can revert to the strike.

  • Your decisions from the locals shall be welcomed by close of tomorrow to enable leadership to send feedback to the Minister and the other stakeholders.
  • Also, leadership wants to assure you that your decisions shall be upheld as usual and communicated to the stakeholders as requested that day to enable them to decide on the fate of the students
