The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the approval for the payment of salary arrears to eligible staff, following authorization from the Ministry of Finance.
In an official communication dated April 20, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors, GES indicated that the approval covers arrears associated with the utilization of the 2024 financial clearance. The arrears are to be paid to qualified personnel from August 1, 2024, to November 2025, through the Controller and Accountant-General's Department (CAGD).
According to the directive, the outstanding payments will be disbursed in instalments over a scheduled period. Beneficiaries are expected to receive their arrears in phases beginning in May, with subsequent payments continuing through June, July, and August. Each instalment represents four months of arrears, ensuring a structured and manageable disbursement process.

The directive was signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, Acting Deputy Director-General (Management Services), on behalf of the Director-General of GES.
This development is expected to bring relief to many education sector workers who have been awaiting payment of outstanding salaries, while also reinforcing the government’s commitment to addressing financial obligations within the public education system.
