The Ministry of Education (MoE) following a public outcry has given a reason for the delay in the release of the 2021/2022 BECE school placement results of students who sat for the 31st edition of the BECE for School Candidates.
A staff of the Ministry speaking to EducationWeb on Tuesday said his outfit as part of efforts to ensure a smooth school placement has decided to sensitize students on the computerized placement system before their final postings.
Asked when the sensitization exercise to help the Junior High School (JHS) graduates better understand the school placement process will commence, the Education Ministry official said it is expected to commence within this week.
According to him, the management of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) after the nationwide sensitization exercise will release the much-awaited school postings of the 2021 BECE School graduates.
A total of 1.39 million prospective students according to the Minister for Education and Bosomtwe Member of Parliament, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum are expected to benefit from the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy this year.
“A total of 1.39 million students are expected to benefit from the Free Senior High School and Technical Vocational and Education Training (Free SHS/TVET) in the next academic year when the school placements are out,” Adutwum noted.
The Education Minister in a discussion said Free SHS enrollment this academic year will increase amid the inclusion of public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students in the central government flagship programme.
Mark Sasu Mensah, the National Coordinator of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System in line with the Minister in charge of Education has also said 90% of students who sat for the BECE will get school placement.
Mr Mensah said unlike in 2020 that 85% of the students who participated in the 30th edition of the BECE for School qualified for posting, the Ghana Education Service (GES) this academic year has targeted to place 90% of the students.
He told the host of OTEC FM’S political show ‘Dwabrem’, Dr Cash that four categories of students including BECE for School candidates this year will be placed under the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
“GES is ready to place regular BECE candidates, the private candidates who sat to better their grades, the foreign candidates and the re-entry candidates who could not get placement due to peculiar issues last year,” he said last year.
The CSSPS official however indicated prospective students with an aggregate 9 in English Language and Mathematics will not be considered for placement this year citing that “it is the policy guideline of the computer school placement.”
