Non-teaching staff at colleges of education have called off their strike

Public Colleges of Education non-teachers temporarily have suspended the industrial action which commenced on April 11, 2022, over the non-payment of some allowances to engage with the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The College non-teaching personnel strike was based on a wrong placement of first degree holders, non-payment of migration arrears, exclusion of generic allowance payment and non-payment of interim market premium allowance.

But, the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association (CENTSAG) in a release said it momentarily has suspended the strike action on a directive by the National Labour Commission and Ghana Tertiary Commission (GTEC).

“The decision reached and directive by the NLC requires CENTSAG to call off the strike and meet the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to achieve expected resolutions to matters that affected the strike,” it stated.

The Colleges of Education non-teachers Association added that “CENTSAG is to return to National Labour Commission (NLC) on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, to report to the outcome of our engagement with parties aforestated,”

CENTSAG after the forthcoming meeting with the Labour Commission and other relevant stakeholders on the suspended strike action has said it will communicate the outcome of the engagement to members and the public.

“We accordingly will notify our employers and stakeholders of our resumption of the strike on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, or thereafter should the issue at stake remain unresolved without serving any additional notice of strike,” it said.
