TTAG issues a warning to trainees about the 'cook' fee payment in the midst of a staff strike.

The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has cautioned students in public Colleges of Education not to pay any money to management for casual workers to cook for them amid the ongoing strike action of non-teaching staff.

The warning comes after some trainees in the various 46 Colleges of Education reported to TTAG that they have been asked by Authorities of the institution to pay casual workers to cook for them amid the nationwide industrial action.

The Association in a statement copied to EducationWeb said it has come to its attention some Colleges students in the absence of staff in the kitchen have been forced to suspend academic work to support casual workers to cook.

“Students in some Colleges of Education have been asked to feed themselves until the strike is over. Authorities in some Colleges are asking students to pay casual workers because management has no money to pay them,” it noted.

But, the Teacher Trainees citing health issues and other ripple effects on students’ academic activities has cautioned trainees in the various public Teacher Training Institution not to pay money for the purposes of paying casual labour.

The non-teaching staff in the government Colleges of Education Monday, April 11, 2022, laid down their working tools to commence the industrial action to register displeasure over the non-payment of some allowances.

The non-teachers in a release said their strike is based on a wrong placement of first degree holders, non-payment of migration arrears, exclusion of generic allowance payment and non-payment of interim market premium allowance.

Following the strike action, TTAG has assured College students and the public it is working hand in hand with the Ghana Tertiary Commission and Conference of Colleges Principals to take steps to avoid the impending strike action.

“The leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has taken notice with grieve concerns of the industrial action to be undertaken by Colleges of Education No Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENSTAG)

In the spirit of true service to teacher trainees TTAG and all stakeholders, the leadership is liaising strongly with GTEC, PRINCOF and other stakeholders to deftly take steps to resolve this as soon as possible,” the Trainees Association said.
