The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) after non-teaching Colleges of Education (CoE) staff threatened to embark on an industrial action has urged students in various public Teacher Training institutions to remain calm.
In a statement dated April 8, 2022, copied to EducationWeb, TTAG said it is working hand in hand with the Ghana Tertiary Commission and Conference of Colleges Principals to take steps to avoid the impending strike action.
“The leadership of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has taken notice with grieve concerns of the industrial action to be undertaken by Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENSTAG)
In the spirit of true service to teacher trainees TTAG and all stakeholders, the leadership is liaising strongly with GTEC, PRINCOF and other stakeholders to deftly take steps to resolve this as soon as possible,” the Trainees Association said.
TTAG’s comment comes after the non-teaching workers in the various 46 public Colleges of Education (CoE) across the country last week announced to embark on a nationwide industrial action effective Monday, April 11, 2022.
CENSTAG in its statement cited wrong placement of first degree holders, non-payment of migration arrears, Exclusion of Generic allowance payment and non-payment of interim market premium allowance as the base for their strike.
The non-teaching staff said they in early January 2022 embarked on strike action over the non-payment of the above-listed allowances but could not carry through due to the intervention of the National Labour Commission (NLC).
But since January 2022, the Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENSTAG) says no commitment has been demonstrated for find solutions to the issues raised except for the partial payment of office holding allowances
“The date given by the National Labour Commission (NLC) for the government team to address the concerns raised had elapsed but no tangible solution had been professed,” the press release signed by CENSTAG President noted.
Following the forthcoming strike action prospective members of the Colleges of Education No Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENSTAG) have been asked to withdraw from College activity until further notice.
