Accra, Ghana - July 15, 2024
Today, the National Service Personnel Association (NSPA) announced a strike by Ghana Pay subscribers, effective immediately, due to delayed allowance payments. This strike impacts thousands of personnel who rely on these payments for their monthly expenses.
The NSPA has outlined several reasons for the strike. First, there have been significant delays in the payment of monthly allowances for Ghana Pay subscribers, while other personnel using different payment systems have already been compensated. This disparity has caused feelings of unfair treatment among the affected personnel.
Additionally, many Ghana Pay subscribers have not received any allowances at all. This issue is further compounded by discrepancies in appointment scheduling, with some personnel starting their service in May and others in March. This has led to complications in the registration process and the withholding of March allowances, which were due promptly.
The lack of payment has also left many subscribers struggling to cover essential expenses such as accommodation and utility bills. The NSPA stresses that these monthly allowances are crucial for their survival as they perform mandatory service to the state.
Despite the government releasing allowances, only personnel using the e-zwich system have received three months' worth of payments, leaving Ghana Pay subscribers with nothing. This has led to feelings of neglect and injustice among the affected personnel. The NSPA has reported that district and regional NSS authorities have been unresponsive to their concerns.
Ama Owusuaa Asante, President of the NSPA, emphasized the importance of equal and fair treatment for all national service personnel. "We are a unique workforce in the state and therefore we should be treated equally and fairly. Ghana Pay subscribers also worked; therefore, we have to be paid," she stated.
The strike will continue until all Ghana Pay subscribers receive their due allowances. The NSPA urges all stakeholders and directors to address this issue promptly to avoid further disruptions.
