The Minister for Education, Dr Adutwum |
The Minister for Education, Dr Adutwum after he asked KNUST students whose courses were deferred over unpaid fees to visit the Student Loan Trust Fund for support says President Nana Addo has approved the no guarantor policy.
Osei Yaw at a meeting with the management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said the policy to enable tertiary students to acquire loans with no guarantor has been passed into law by Nana Addo.
The teaching minister Friday, April 22, 2022, told relevant stakeholders and the Authorities of the Kumasi-based KNUST that the no guarantor policy forms part of the government’s effort to improve access to education in the country.
“The good news is that Nana Addo gave the approval for what is called the ‘no guarantor policy’ which is now the law of the land, which means students can apply for loans to be given the money without a guarantor,” Adutwum stated.
According to the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, the management of the Students’ Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) will effectively engage prospective students who may need financial support to pay for their academic fees.
In a related development, the launch of ‘no guarantor’ for tertiary student loans previously scheduled for Monday, December 20, 2021, at the Kwame Nkrumah University School of Business has been postponed until further notice.
“We are very sorry to inform you that the official launch for the ‘No guarantor student loan policy’ has been postponed until further notice due to circumstances beyond our control,” the National Union of Ghana Students said last year.
The Deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Education commenting on the policy has said the Ghana education system is about to witness yet another pragmatic reform that intends to acknowledge the constitutional rights of every child.
“The policy to be launched at a date yet to be communicated will afford the Free SHS graduates, especially, those from poor social-economic backgrounds access to higher education, Yaw Opoku Mensah told EducationWeb.com.gh.
