EXHAUSTED MOOD AT THE TOP OF MOUNT AFADJA

On the 14th of May 2022, the Geography Student Association of Accra College of Education embarked on a field trip to three major scenery sites in the Volta Region, Ghana. They were more than 45 in number including a Lecturer(Mr Asamoah) and the College driver.

Below is a report drafted on the Field Trip experience by a GOESA student who is known as Nana Hemaa Fina.

A FIELD TRIP TO THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN GHANA, TAGBO FALLS AND THE FAMOUS MONKEY SANCTUARY (TAFI).

Indeed nature is beautiful, it unravels the solace and tranquillity that really existed from the beginning. A supreme reason God declared it splendid and perfect.

I SARAFINA pass days stretched in the shade of those old cedar trees, watching the sunshine like a blessing fall, the breeze like music wandering, perhaps praising its maker. Each tree is a natural harp, each different leaf a different note blent in one vast thanksgiving.

On the 14th of May 2022, was simply a story of adventure. adventurous pioneers seeking out new, wild and exciting beautiful sceneries of the Afadjato mountain, Tagbo falls and the globally famous Tafi monkey’s sanctuary located in the Volta Region of Ghana. They began their journey in the early hours of the Sabbath.

After a few hours, we got to the widely known and esteemed Adomi Bridge. Guys were ridiculously sacked by the military upon getting off the vehicle to have a view of the eye-catching river volta and a feel of its natural breeze.

Finally and in high hopes we arrived at our destination with the inscription Mount Afadjato and Tagbo falls, Liati Wote ‘Home of Afadjato’. Guess what! everything was just getting interesting as the people of the land were very humane and decorous.

Warmly welcomed by the tourist receptionist, we were gisted about the history of the historical mountain, the name and what it actually connotes.

In optimism, we got to the top of the mountain. The view, the slope, and the vegetation; are one that testifies Ghana is blessed. One lady after gasping for breath several times reluctantly said

‘climbing to the top of this mountain 885m of height makes me believe that with determination and hard work you can achieve great things.

Fast forward after descending, we took the path leading to the Tagbo falls. It was quite a long distance but that did not discourage our enthusiasm.

The sound from the falls alone was refreshing, it gives inner peace. The birds and animals of this land must really be at peace with their souls in such a natural habitat, I noted.

Back to the tourist reception, we had our lunch and set off for the Tafi Monkeys sanctuary our last destination. We were left in amazement seeing monkeys live with humans. It was a great site.

On the other hand, it was a trip full of edutainment, especially for the students of GEOSA. Having a self-exploration and direct contact with objects of learning enhances a deeper understanding of concepts taught and learned as outlined in the education curriculum.
