The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) for 2024 is scheduled to take place from 23rd to 25th September. This exam, conducted by the National Teaching Council (NTC), is a crucial step for anyone who wishes to become a licensed teacher in Ghana. If you’re preparing for this exam, here’s a guide on how to go about it and ensure you pass successfully.
1. Understanding the Examination Structure
The GTLE consists of three papers that every candidate must write:
- General Professional Knowledge (GPK): This paper covers numeracy, literacy, and essential professional skills.
- Pedagogy Paper: This is tailored to your specialization. Whether you are trained in Early Childhood, Primary, JHS, or SHS/Technical and Vocational Education, the pedagogy paper will test your knowledge in your specific field.
- Subject-Based Content: Depending on your training, you will either write a paper in Multiple Subjects Content (for Early Childhood and Primary Education) or a Single Subject Content (for JHS, SHS, and TVET).
2. Who Is Eligible?
To be eligible for the GTLE, you must have a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. If you have a foreign degree, you need to provide a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to prove your eligibility.
3. Registration Process
- Fresh Candidates: You need to pay GH₵450.00 for the three papers. Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Ltd or GCB Bank PLC, or through mobile money using the short codes provided by the NTC.
- Re-sit Candidates: If you are re-sitting one or more papers, the fees are GH₵150.00 for one paper, GH₵210.00 for two papers, and GH₵385.00 for all three papers.
- Indexing: Before registering for the exam, check your indexing status at indexing.ntc.gov.gh. If your details are uploaded by your training institution, you can proceed to register.
4. Preparation Tips
Preparation is key to passing the GTLE. Here’s how you can prepare:
- Study the Right Materials: Visit ntc.gov.gh/gtle-content for detailed content areas and tables of specifications. Focus on the key areas outlined for your specialization.
